Natalie explains – ‘It was a complete accident. A couple of months back our club archivist posted a picture in our Supporters Club Facebook page with an old photo of the Slimbridge AFC team from the 1922/23 season, with the players’ names listed below.

There was a name that stood out to me (Albert Webb) as my late Nan’s surname was Webb and she had always lived locally. I didn’t know much about her parents and wider family so as a joke I showed it to my Dad, who got me into watching Slimbridge, asking if it was any relation of his - expecting a “No”.

To my surprise he replied to say his Grandad was actually called Albert Webb and had also lived locally throughout a majority of his life.

So my dad and I did some digging with some other family members, who to our shock confirmed that the Albert Webb pictured was in fact my Great Grandfather.

The picture from 1922/23 season falls 100 years before (2023) I set up the Supporters Club at Slimbridge AFC to help raise funds for the club to assist in our then aspirations to get promoted from the Hellenic League.

Three years later we have done just that and the Supporters Club is now paying for all the club’s coach travel due to greater travelling distances that has come with the promotion to the Southern League.

Also this season my sister Courtney has also become greatly involved with the club as a volunteer working with social media, so Slimbridge AFC was clearly a club our family was meant to be part of!’
