Fairford knocked Slimbridge out of the Marsh Challenge with a 3-0 victory last night at Cinder Lane, but the night will be remembered for other reasons by many of those present.
With temperatures dropping, the score goalless and 20 minutes on the clock, Referee Albert Warr decided that the conditions were unacceptable to continue, and abandoned the game.
There then followed five minutes of chaotic scenes of discussion with players and Management of both sides, before he reversed his decision and said that the game could continue, forcing some players who had already gone to the dressing room to get kitted back up and come out again.
Fairford's goals came courtesy of a first half penalty from Ex-Swan Joey Shutt, and then second half strikes from Leighton Blacker and Alfie Taylor.
Slimbridge return to league action on Saturday, when they travel to Cinderford Town. Kick off is 3.00pm.
