‘It was great to get going again Saturday against a strong physical direct Larkhall side, I thought we played really well in possession, and created enough opportunities to win the game, but, as always, in a tight game, Larkhall took their chances, we didn’t, and we’ve just got to learn to deal with that physical threat, and the directness of some teams.
But overall, I’m pretty pleased, definitely when we were in possession, we just needed to take a couple of our chances.’
After taking an early lead through Marley Thomas, Slimbridge failed to consolidate their advantage, and three goals from the home side saw them claim an opening day victory. Driver-Dickerson said that the side needs further work to counteract the direct physical style of football employed so effectively by the Larks.
‘The way Larkhall set up definitely caused us some problems, with that direct ball and how they set up – but I think that Larkhall will be top half, pushing for the Play Offs, so it’s a good measure of where we’re at and where we need to get to.
We need to be more clinical in the final third, but overall I was pleased with the display, and we’re all looking forward to getting back to it again on Wednesday, when Winchester come to our place.‘
Slimbridge entertain Winchester City tomorrow night (Wednesday 18th), at Thornhill Park, with a 7.45pm Kick Off.
On Saturday, the Swans have an FA Cup Preliminary Round visit to Buckinghamshire, where they will visit Marlow Town. A Coach running from Thornhill Park to the game has now sold out.
